"It's all quiet at the moment," a West Midlands Police spokesman said Sunday, adding that there was "a high visibility police presence" in the area to deter any fresh incidents.
In an echo of violence in the same district in 1985, mobs pelted police with bricks, stones and bottles, and smashed shop and car windows with baseball bats and sticks, witnesses said. At least one car was torched.
The injured included three who were stabbed, and two who were shot, including a police officer hit by a round from a BB gun. Police said the man who was fatally stabbed was black.
The unrest was linked to rumors that a 14-year-old Afro-Caribbean girl had been sexually assaulted - some claimed raped - by a gang of men of South Asian origin.
"Police treated this allegation as serious and have investigated it as if a crime had taken place, but despite this there has not been any evidence that an attack has taken place," said police in a statement Sunday.
Rioting erupted after members of the Afro-Caribbean and south Asian communities in Lozells met a church hall to reassure the black community and encourage the alleged victim to come forward.
The Sunday Times newspaper said a gang of up to 30 youths, apparently of South Asian origin, began throwing stones at some of the 300 people attending the meeting in the church.
One woman, quoted by Britain's domestic Press Association news agency, said: "Black guys up here on Lozells Road heard about the stabbing and got very angry."
According to BBC's report, this story started out as rumour, but London police still investigated it and could not find any proof that a rape had taken place. Meanwhile, insults against Asian community have already started flowing. Keep up the good work guys.
I see, people are entirely unaffected by bigots like the National Front who go around blaming black and Asian people for all the ills of the country are they? Sadly, not - so people are influenced and that's why inciting racial hatred is a crime in the UK.

Tends to be the normal word used for all people from Asia in Britian - the racial pejorative used is 'Pakis', which obviously comes from Pakistanis (used regardless of whether the person so called was orginally of Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi or Sri Lankan etc. origin). Chinese are also called Asians in the UK - or indeed Chinese.

"Pakis" is used mostly by Indian referring to Pakistanis these days. In areas like Southall or Ealing it has become the absolute norm and is used quite openly on buses, in shops and especially in schools. Indian and Pakistani lads are always fronting up to each other after a few too many bottles of Strongbow or joints.
Infact is has been this way for ages, asians vs black/whites etc. I remember massive gang on gang fights when coming home from school which involved baseball bats and knuckle dusters etc.
Plenty of my UK friends refer to themselves as British as well as Chinese, Asian, or another category. Plenty feel that you can be both a Briton and keep your cultural identity.
If somebody wants to call themselves a British Asian, support Pakistan in the Cricket and England in the World Cup, that's no problem with most people - only tabloid editors, and right wing high-blood-pressre-types.
I don't know how they can refer to themselves as British!!!!They are not British!!!! They are Indians and blacks that we're born in England and nothing else. If they're not happy , why don't they go back to where they're parents , grand parents come from?
Look, I'm not the one who will yell go home or believe every Muslim is an Al-Qaida suspect. But if they want to refer to themselves as Indians, Pakistanese or whatever then why is that wrong? And from my personal experience only that is the impression I get. If you ask someone looking Asian in their 20s, where you are from? I bet more people would state their country of their parent's origin than UK. And I don't see that as a problem.
