INSTEAD of getting an extension of his tourist visa, a Japanese national found himself being arrested by immigration agents on Wednesday for allegedly beating up his common-law wife and sexually abusing their househelp.
Adachi Genichiro was arrested at the Bureau of Immigration office in Intramuros, Manila, on Wednesday in an entrapment operation set up with the help of his common-law wife, Soledad Ferrer.
Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr. said in a statement that Genichiro would undergo deportation proceedings for being an undesirable and overstaying alien, since his visa had expired.
Aside from being accused of beating up his wife, Genichiro was also the subject of a criminal complaint filed in the Manila prosecutor's office for allegedly raping one of their housemaids, according to BI intelligence chief Faizal Hussin.
After Ferrer filed a complaint against Genichiro with the BI, intelligence operatives hatched a plan to entrap the Japanese with his common-law wife's help.
To get him to the immigration bureau where he was to be arrested, Ferrer pretended to take Genichiro to the BI office to help him get an extension of his tourist visa.
